The full moon of Taurus is celebrated as Wesak Festival and the special Buddha Purnima Meditation is being conducted at YPV Ashram. This is a very powerful meditation and doing it in Ashram with the Senior Arhat Yogis is a great opportunity to anchor spiritual energy in one’s life.
Full moon nights offer a uniquely potent and increased amount of energy to Earth and its inhabitants. This excessive energy creates tidal changes, influences the reproduction of coral reefs, and even influences our emotions, female reproductive cycles, etc. At any given time during the month, you’ll notice a distinct spike in the number of births on or near full moon days.
Esoteric teachings indicate that meditating is easier during specific periods in the earth’s energy cycle. There are specific days during which, the positioning of the earth, sun, and moon, offer an increase in the available spiritual energy.
Each full moon is a time of ideal positioning which is brimming with spiritual and transformational potential. Several teachers have theorized that each full moon of the year corresponds to one energy centre, or chakra, in the human body. The full moons occurring during the predominant energy of a specific constellation, magnifies that energy’s availability to us. If one meditates on each full moon of the year, then they would develop their chakras in a proportional and balanced manner.
The trinity of full moons of Aries, Taurus, and Gemini are the three most potent full moon events of the year. They offer humanity an opportunity to absorb the divine aspects of light, love, and power, so that they can use these energies for upliftment.
The Aries full moon, which occurs on 17th April 2022, marks the descent of Buddha Maitreya onto Earth. The Buddhist text of Mahaprajnaparamitasastra defines Maitri as loving-kindness and compassion. These are the two main virtues that are encouraged by our Spiritual Teacher, and we can strengthen these virtues in ourselves by meditation on the Aries Full Moon. Buddha Maitreya is the lord of love and compassion. He is prophesied to be the next Buddha to come to Earth, when the Teachings of Buddha Shakyamuni have been lost. However, it is believed that every year, on the Aries Full Moon, he descends to earth to prepare for The Wesak Festival. Buddha Maitreya stays on earth till the day of the Gemini Full Moon, when, after having completed the Wesak Event, he returns to his abode on the higher realms. For the period of time wherein Buddha Maitreya is accessible to us, i.e., April 17, 2022 to June 14, 2022, the spiritual aspirant can tap into the energy of love and compassion more easily.
The full moon of Taurus, also known as the Wesak Full Moon, is the single most powerful full moon event of the lunar calendar. On this day, eons ago, Buddha Shakyamuni was born. Several years later, he attained enlightenment on the same lunar day. And decades after enlightenment, he attained the highest liberation on the Taurus Full Moon. The significance of the Taurus full moon, in the life of Buddha clearly indicates that on this full moon, earth has access to the most subtle, most refined, excessive downpour of spiritual energy. The life journey of Buddha Shakyamuni is a silent testimony to the wondrous powers of this full moon, and its transformational energy. Perhaps, this is why this full moon corresponds with the 12th chakra – the chakra connecting us to our Atman.
The Wesak celebration is not a celebration of the events of the past. It is a celebration of an event that is occurring in the present. Every year, on the Wesak Full Moon, Buddha Shakyamuni returns to earth, for a period of eight minutes. He guides humanity towards further evolution and showers us with tremendous divine energy. We have the opportunity to be a part of this event and to cleanse our subtle bodies of the limitations of the past. We get the opportunity to serve humanity by helping the spiritual elders in their efforts to direct the abundant spiritual energy towards the healing and upliftment of all beings on earth. Buddha Shakyamuni offers the spiritual aspirant an opportunity to gain spiritual wisdom that will help in transforming one’s life.
The Gemini Full Moon, on 14th June 2022 marks the end of the Wesak Festival. On this day, Buddha Maitreya returns to his abode, after completing the Wesak Festival. Prior to his departure, he shares his teachings with the spiritual aspirants.
By meditating on these three full moon days, the spiritual aspirant can bridge the distance between themselves and Spiritual Elders. Meditating in a group, on the three full moon days, accelerates your soul development by years.
